Parents as partners

Children benefit most when parents and nursery staff work together in partnership. Two-way communication is essential, and we work hard to make sure this works to the benefit of all concerned.

Supporting you

We understand how difficult it can be to be separated from your child, which is why we do everything we can to support you and ensure that you feel our nursery is an extension of your home life. We welcome parents’ informal drop-ins, and we also hold more formal parents’ evenings twice a year. We’re always happy to share stories about your child’s progress and developing personalities.

Free taster sessions

Once a start date for your child has been agreed, we offer free taster sessions. This is a time for you to bring your child into nursery so that they can gradually get to know our staff team and the other children, and get used to spending time with us. Each child settles in differently, which is why the number of free taster sessions is unlimited; the most important thing is that you feel confident leaving your child with us and that they are happy here.

Key-worker system

To ensure that your child feels safe, secure and happy, a member of our team will be named as your child’s key worker. This person will take a lead role in caring for your child, observing their development, achievements and interests while planning individual experiences tailored to their needs. Your key worker will be your first port of call if you have any questions or concerns, and they will also be a familiar face for your child — which is particularly important during the settling-in period.

eyLog

Your child’s key worker and the team will record observations and assessments on your child's dedicated learning journey. This builds up a clear, holistic picture of what your child knows, understands, feels and can do. This information is used to plan the learning intentions in their development and learning. You will be invited via email to access this through the eyLog parent app once your child begins nursery, and a member of our team will always be happy to discuss your child's progress with you.

Daily diary sheets

You will receive a daily diary through the eyLog app each day. These provide an excellent record of what your child's day, including meals, snacks and drinks, nappy changes and sleep times. In this way, you won’t miss out on anything important, and you’ll be able to encourage further progress at home. For children aged over 3, the diary sheets are a little less detailed as we think it is important to encourage these conversations with yourself and your child, however our Big Room team will be on hand to discuss your child’s day with you too.

Parents’ evening

We hold parents’ evenings twice a year. These are an ideal opportunity to meet with your child’s key worker to discuss your child’s development, achievements and interests. You’ll have the chance to view displays of work that your child has been involved with; spend time looking through your child’s developmental file; and meet with other parents with children of the same age.
